What is Keto?

The Keto, or Ketogenic, diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carb lifestyle. The diet mimics aspects of starvation by forcing the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.

The process of ketosis occurs when the body burns fat (in the form of ketones) instead of carbs (glucose) for energy.

This diet asserts that fat consumption is not correlated with body fat gain. Instead, fat is used to contribute to a feeling of “fullness” and is a core part of weight-loss.

A ketogenic diet follows a macro nutrient ratio of 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbohydrates.

An excellent FAQ of what a ketogenic diet entails can be found at the lovely Reddit community I frequent, r/keto.
